Camping With a CPAP: Build the Power Plan First

Calculate overnight CPAP energy and separate comfort features from essential therapy.

CPAP power needs vary substantially by machine, pressure, humidifier, heated hose, mask leak, altitude, and temperature. Medical needs deserve a manufacturer-confirmed plan, not a generic battery estimate.

Use the machine’s actual configuration

Check the manufacturer’s DC power guidance and measure a typical night when possible. Heated humidity and heated tubing can consume far more energy than the blower alone. Do not disable prescribed features without discussing the change with your clinician.

Prefer an approved DC path

A compatible DC adapter can avoid inverter losses, but voltage and polarity must match exactly. Include enough battery for the intended nights plus a conservative reserve, and keep the therapy power supply separate from recreational loads.

Plan for failure

Cold reduces available battery performance. Charging may be limited by weather. Test the complete system at home, bring required adapters, protect connectors from moisture, and follow the CPAP and battery manufacturers’ safety instructions.
