USB-C Power Delivery in the Field

USB-C describes the connector, not the charging speed. The device, charger, cable, and power source must negotiate a shared Power Delivery profile.
Start with the device requirement
Find the wattage and voltage profiles your device accepts. A laptop that ships with a 65W adapter may charge slowly—or not at all during use—from a basic 18W port.
The cable is part of the circuit
Higher-power modes require properly rated cables, and some use an electronic marker. Label known-good cables rather than assuming every USB-C cable in the bag is interchangeable.
Reduce conversion steps
Charging directly from a suitable USB-C PD output is usually more efficient than turning on an AC inverter and plugging in a wall adapter. Confirm that the port supports the needed output; some USB-C ports are input-only.
