Waterproof Storage for Outdoor Electronics

“Water resistant” covers a wide range of protection. Storage should match the actual hazard: rain, brief immersion, dust, crushing, condensation, or repeated access with wet hands.

Dry bags favor light weight

Roll-top bags work well inside a pack when closed correctly, but sharp items and abrasion can compromise them. Use a smaller inner pouch for batteries and connectors.

Hard cases favor impact protection

A gasketed hard case protects fragile electronics and organizes cables, at the cost of weight and bulk. Confirm the case’s tested ingress rating instead of assuming every latched case is submersible.

Manage trapped moisture

A sealed wet device stays wet. Dry equipment before closing it away, use reusable desiccant where appropriate, and allow electronics to acclimate before powering them after a cold-to-warm transition.
